Excerpt: What Does Science Not Study?

A Snapshot of Scientific Funding & the Nature of Paradigm Shifts

From our friends at The Divine Influx

By Adam Miezio

A narrative gaining popularity in the West suggests that we’ve supplanted religion with science and we’ve swapped the Bible for a beaker. If science has become the ultimate truth, we can learn a lot about our world by looking at what science doesn’t study. Although science has transformed the modern world, blind spots abound that obfuscate psycho-spiritual investigations and inhibit paradigm shifts.

What Does Science Not Study?

I’ve been watching plenty of professor Jiang Xueqin’s Predictive History lectures lately. He’s become a YouTube sensation and a darling of the internet over the last year. Agree with him or not, he’s brought some intriguing ideas to the forefront. Professor Jiang posits that science doesn’t study the following areas of inquiry:

  • Consciousness

  • Imagination/Intuition

  • The Immaterial/Spirit (i.e. ghosts)

  • Religious Truth

  • Kindness, Happiness, Love

  • Telepathy, Connection, Community

  • Intelligence of Animals and Plants

  • Ancient Architecture and Civilizations (Goebekli Tepe for example, which may refute traditional paradigms including evolution)

I add two more:

  • Psychedelics

  • Sound, Frequency, and Vibration

Is professor Jiang right? Why does science pour billions of dollars into some fields while alienating other areas of inquiry that have a direct effect on consciousness, human life and meaning?

To help answer this question, let’s first look at scientific funding data.

Introducing The Psychedelic Writers Guild Leadership Team

Adam Miezio
PWG Guildmaster

Alex Detmering
Psychedelic Writers Guild Co-Founder

Jack Gorsline
Founder of The Psychedelic Writers Guild

The Psychedelic Writers Guild (PWG) and founder Jack Gorsline are pleased to announce PWG’s next phase as Alex Detmering and Adam Miezio join the leadership team. Steady growth has followed the inception of PWG in 2024, thus the need to fill the ranks.

A year and a half ago, psychedelic journalist Jack Gorsline founded The Psychedelic Writers Guild and began a mission to create a network for writers and media professionals to produce, share, and distribute high-quality stories within the emerging psychedelic field. The Psychedelic Writers Guild is a collaborative media project serving a community of journalists, writers, content marketers, creators, storytellers and media companies focused on creating an ethical and values-driven psychedelic media ecosystem.

Gorsline continues in the primary leadership role, while Detmering bolsters the PWG team as cofounder, and Miezio fulfills the role of guildmaster. Please meet the expanded PWG leadership team and welcome aboard the new additions.

Jack Gorsline, PWG Founder is a Washington, D.C.-based investigative reporter covering the politics of drug policy reform with a focus on psychedelics and cannabis legalization advocacy both in the United States and around the world. Jack is also the founder of the Psychedelic States of America, a nonprofit-sponsored news organization dedicated to rigorous independent psychedelic journalism.

Alex Detmering, PWG Cofounder is a psychedelic journalist and also founder of The Parable Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to telling the whole story on psychedelic therapy. Parable produces an anonymous podcast that gives people who have gone through psychedelic therapy the chance to tell their stories with remarkable honesty.

Adam Miezio, PWG Guildmaster writes in the psychedelic field thanks to lifelong journeying and plant medicine work. Born in Chicago, he received his master’s from N.E.I.U. completing a thesis about the Heaven’s Gate cult. He enjoys learning about psychedelics, psychology, shamanism, mysticism and fringe ideas on the fuzzy periphery of consciousness.

The additional leadership positions will support PWG’s efforts to promote ethical, accurate, and independent reporting on the rapidly expanding landscape of psychedelic research, policy, and industry. The collective covers the business, politics, and culture of psychedelics, aiming to ensure transparent and responsible narratives.

Building the psychedelic media community, improving the quality of psychedelic writing, and offering professional development fuel PWG’s evolution in 2026 and beyond. PWG continues holding biweekly networking events and is looking to broaden its presence in the psychedelic conference and event landscape.

If you’re a professional in the psychedelic community, whether on the creation or publishing side, we welcome you to join this one of a kind project. We’re not just mind manifesting, we’re media manifesting.
